If you wish to be a writer; Write

For many years now I have wanted to write a book, I have in fact got the entire first chapter of two different novels on my computer and one of them even has the opening paragraph to Chapter 2.

Unfortunately for me however I am not the most organised person, add to that my tendency to procrastinate, that tiny amount of writing has taken me literally years.

When I do try and sit down and add something to my stories my mind goes blank, I ‘m unable to write anything else, so up comes Facebook, Twitter, MMO Champion, Sky Sports News and all the other places I like to hang out on the internet and within 10 minutes Word is closed and nothing has been added.

A testament to this is the fact that I started writing this post at 14:00 (its now 23:40), on the up side , I’ve done the washing up, played LBP2, Saints Row 3, watched a few episodes of both Alcatraz and Eureka and  found many new and exciting things on Wikipedia that I can share with you at a later date so it’s not been an entirely wasted evening.

Whilst researching for courses on writing and/or inspiration for the next exciting chapter, one of the ideas to help get the creative juices going was “Free Writing” essentially writing for a set period of time about any and everything that came into your head, ignore spelling and punctuation just spill the contents of your brain onto the page. This gets you thinking and focus’s you on writing and  makes starting that next part of your project that much easier.

That idea is essentially the reason for this Blog existing, I’m hoping that by writing about something, anything and doing it on a frequent basis it will help me to focus on the business of writing, improve my writing and lastly of course launch me into literary stardom. Im not to sure how often I will post,  a good friend of mine posts every day but I dont think im cut out for that yet, I think I shall set myself a goal of twice a week and see where we go from there.

As the idea is to simply write regardless of what about, chances are that this is not going to be the most coherent of blogs and the topics will range from what I ate for dinner last night to my opinions on possibly everything.

I read a lot, watch a lot of TV shows and manage a game retail store so its fairly likely those things will feature heavily although not exclusively. Ill at least try to write something that others might find interesting but I cant promise anything.

I enjoyed this and feel a great deal of similarity between what you’re doing and the process that I’ve started. I look forward to reading your work. Thanks!
