The great thing about the internet is the ability to get instant feedback.

In yesterdays post I used a popular media term and good friend of mine rightfully tore me apart for using it. (You can check his response in the comments to yesterdays post.)

The comment that irked him was thus.

“We like to bash the bankers and don’t get me wrong they deserve it, but using one thing to justify another doesn’t make it right.”

Banker bashing has become somewhat of a sport recently, one that clearly I have managed to find myself competing in, but as my friend rightly points out, what do I know about the subject.

Truth be told nothing, as he said I have picked up on a media slogan and used it in my blog to make a point without really having any understanding of the situation or in fact the cause of it.

Now much as my friends defence of the banking profession will most likely incense many people in the same way as the previous comment did him, he has a really rather valid point.

When we (me included) lump all members of the profession into one group and blame them collectively for the current financial situation, do we think about the everyday people who sit behind the counter or the various other job roles that would have little or no impact? It’s highly unlikely that they or anyone they have had immediate contact with, had any influence on the problems faced by the industry.

I know when writing the statement it wasn’t a thought that crossed my mind.
