The pressure is on

As you know yesterday I heading into London for my Birthday Present from my wife, It was awesome!

I was a little worried about it being the Jubilee and the amount of people that where likely to be in London and considering my feelings on “other” people that was not something I was looking forward to, but it turned out ok in the end. The areas of London that we were in didn’t seem to be affected, the Tube and Train was pretty empty, and there seemed to be no more people about that any other day in London.

But anyways onto the big event, my wife had booked me a table at Gordon Ramsey’s at Claridiges. It was everything I expected, the food was outstanding, the service amazing and the atmosphere was lovely.

Both me and the wife had pretty much the same meal.

Sautéed chicken livers with toasted brioche, wild mushroom and fried egg

Followed by

Braised beef featherblade with cauliflower purée and baby spring vegetables

And then we had different deserts, I had

Dark chocolate with a honeycomb sphere and milk chocolate sauce

And the wife had

Vanilla crème brûlée with lemon madeleines

I’m not a great fan of liver but the starter was lovely, I was especially impressed with the egg, which was covered in breadcrumbs like a scotch egg, but still hot and runny on the inside, I literally have no idea how they managed that.

The Beef was like cutting butter; apparently it is slow cooked for 16 hours!

My desert was a piece of theatre as well as amazingly tasty, it came out as a chocolate sphere, the chocolate sauce was then poured over the sphere which melted to reveal , the honeycomb, vanilla ice cream and chocolate mousse which had been placed by some kind of magic inside it.

To top the whole day off, the Wife had also booked us into a swanky hotel which was only a 15 minute walk from Oxford Street.

All in all it was a fantastic day, but it does now put a lot of pressure on my to deliver next month when it is her birthday!
