Geektastic

As well as the present mentioned in yesterdays post I received an excellent amount of Geektastic presents from Wife.

It’s amazing how well she knows me and how every Christmas she manages to find new and unexpected things that appeal to my geeky nature.

A selection can be found below, perhaps they will help inspire some geeky purchases for you or you loved ones in the future.

My Programs and Us programs

October 10, 2012 1 comment

As I have mentioned previously this month I am somewhat of a telly addict, in the last month as well as my usual weekly programs I have steamrolled my way through 5 entire seasons of Chuck, watching the last episode yesterday.

It’s an awesome program, if you haven’t already then check it out.

However its end has somewhat left me with a conundrum. Despite her love of the soaps Wife generally has a very similar taste in TV to me, but every now and again I find something that she isn’t really into and it gives me something to watch at the times that she is busy watching her soaps, doing her marking or performing in a murder mystery event.

Sadly for me a lot of the time what starts as one of “My programs” that I can happily watch at whatever time I see fit gets converted to an “Us” program that requires careful planning and specified timeslots as to when I am able to see them. Eureka started off this way, but due its change in status I am yet to watch the final season.

Due to some lax work on my part in obtaining recent episodes of “Us” shows Chuck has now fallen into the category but luckily my head start meant I was able to watch the final few episodes without affecting our “Us” viewing.

As it stands I have two “My Programs” left, Sons of Anarchy and Fringe, I am however up to date on both of these, and the most recent addition to my collection “Revolution” has already been categorised as an “Us” program meaning I must wait to follow up on episodes one’s cliff-hanger ending.

If anyone has any suggestions for something that I can keep firmly in the “My” category and preferably has a good number of seasons to keep me occupied then please let me know.

I’m a massive TV fan, I watch a lot of shows and when I get into them I really go at it hammer and tongs!

When I fist discovered it I watched LOST seasons 1&2 in the space of 36 Hours, watched the first season of 24 over a week and since this Saturday I have watched two and half seasons of Chuck.

So I really love this time of year, not only do many of my existing of my existing favourites start again, but a whole host of new shows hit the box. There are a few such as Game of Thrones and Justified that I still have to wait until the new year for, but luckily this often crosses over with breaks in other shows and so reduces the amount of time that I am left with nothing to watch.

In the last few weeks 34 of my current favourite shows have restarted and I have been more than impressed. Modern Family has picked up where it left of and continues to be the funniest thing on TV, Fringe has started its final season and I can’t wait to find out where it all ends, Dexter has taken it to a whole new level with the ending of this week’s opening episode of the season, and I can’t find words to express the emotions that I have gone through watching the first 3 episodes of season 5 of Sons of Anarchy, last week’s episode has really created a divide amongst its fan base.

On top of this I have lined up a number of new shows to add to my ever growing weekly viewing schedule.

I watched the first episode of “Go On” last night, a new comedy with Matthew Perry, it was ok and had a few laugh out loud moments but had some touching ones as well. It wasn’t outstanding and unless it picks up its game dramatically is unlikely to get a second season, but I’ll be honest I thought that about New Girl which everyone else seems to find hilarious.

I’ve got “666 Park Avenue,”  “The Mob Doctor” and the one I have been looking forward to the most, “Revolution” it’s now just a case of finding time to add these new shows to my already jam pack evenings!
The trailers are below, check em out and let me know what your verdict is!

Saturday Night TV

My front room has been turned into a classroom this evening.

My wife and her boss are marking and standardising their GCSE coursework, this means I have been exiled to the computer room.

This is no bad thing normally, as it means I get the chance to catch up on my gaming, unfortunately as it stands I am on 10 game losing streak on League of legends which is dampening my will to play.

On the upside it has meant I have had the opportunity to watch the 2 part season finale to Fringe, and that’s 2 hours of my life well spent!

In the last 3 episodes we have had 2 Losties show up which has been awesome, as well as some pretty outstandingly mind blowing story arcs.

Fringe is the closest thing to a modern day X-files, a show that I was equally addicted to, there is less Aliens and more Science but the overall feel is very much the same. It has the same overarching mythology interspersed with the Monster of the Week format that the X-files did so well.

If you haven’t watched it yet I strongly recommend that you do.

Fringe thankfully has managed to secure another series, although I believe it is set to be the last. Sadly JJ’s other recent project Alcatraz failed to make the grade and has been cancelled.  Once again Fox (yeah we still haven’t forgiven you for Firefly) shuts down another show with real potential.

With Lost and 24 very much dead and buried and House set to follow them this year, I’m starting to run out of shows that I want to watch. There are still some things I am genuinely excited about such as Game of Thrones, Touch, Justified and Sons of Anarchy but the networks seem to relying more and more on tripe like BGT, X-Factor, The Voice and Dancing on Ice to fill their schedules.

Is this really all the viewing public want? Glorified Freak Shows where we can watch “performing” dogs?

Personally I want a little more from my TV.
