The World they Live In
It seems that my new found enthusiasm for my Blog has started to have the desired effect, whilst I am not yet ready to get back in the saddle and re- join Jezzrael, Tairn and Enord I have spent a majority of the day looking for both inspiration and advice from fellow aspiring writers.
This in itself may not sound like much of an achievement, but when you consider that my average Saturday would consist of a combination of League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Sim City and a host of TV shows, this focus for the best part of 7 hours is a real step in the right direction.
The main area that I have focused my “research” on today has been World building.
I’m fairly sure that I have mentioned this before, but I am a little stuck on where exactly So Far Untitled goes next.
I’ve got some set piece moments, a handful of characters and a few locations for them to hang out in, already all planned out in my head, but the overall plot line and the world that it plays out in is still somewhat shrouded in mist.
Planning has never been one of my strong points, at both school and collage my homework/coursework was written the night before, interviews and work presentations have generally been frantically prepped for on the train to my destination, even the speech at my wedding day was written on a post it note an hour before the service.
Where in the events above I have managed to “wing it” writing a novel really isn’t a situation where that works.
I think that really focusing on the world itself and fleshing out the realm in which these characters exist will help my story move forwards.
My goal for April is to spend it really creating my world, making it feel real and expanding it beyond the grain of sand that it is now.
